Social Networking in the workplace

Deloitte’s recently conducted a Survey in the US that examines social networking and reputational risk in the workplace. I found some of the findings very interesting especially in light of the rapid growth of social media and the different opinions about use and access. Here are some of the results that got my attention:

  • Only 17 percent of executives surveyed say they have programs in place to monitor the possible reputational risks related to the use of social networks
  • 74% of employees believe that it is fairly easy to damage a corporate reputation through social media
  • One-third of employees surveyed never consider what their boss or customers might think before posting material online
  • 60 percent of business executives say they have the right to know how employees portray themselves and their organizations online, while 53 percent of the employees contend that “social networking pages are none of an employer’s business”
  • 55% of executives say their companied don’t have an official use of social networks, and 22% said their companies would like to use social networking tools but haven’t figured out how

Hello Sue, not sure what you mean. Are you asking how social networking will impact the South African market over the next 20 years?
