But the majority of marketers are still not using the consumer comments and opinions as a measured justification component for digital media plans, online strategies and campaigns.

LO\WE Interactive Community in Cannes

The second LOWE get-together has just been held in at the Hotel Belles Rives in Cannes, France or on the French Riviera…. if you want to make everyone really envious when you mention it. The Cannes Film Festival is also currently running so you can imagine the buzz.

I have to mention the location first because it is almost criminal to have to work when you are in such a beautiful setting; but work we did although it has been really enjoyable so “work” is actually the incorrect term….. it has been a collaboration of like-minded, passionate, beautiful, talented individuals from 12 different countries talking “Digital” and where this community can take this “place, new media, industry”…
The two-day conference covered specific market updates, presentations and discussions around creative work done as well as new tools and trends out there.
The newset members to the community are Arachnid, a really smart digital agency based in KL, Malaysia.
I launched saidWot which is our reputation management tool, perfect to measure effectiveness of campaigns, provide good research data and provide a strong platform for the basis of a strategy.

Getting-Started

I have been thinking about how to start my first blog posting so for inspiration I looked at a few websites for advice. In doing so I came across an article that should help to explain the thoughts that have been going through my head before I made my first posting.

The article highlights five questions that I am sure everyone who has wanted to start blogging has thought about:

  1. What will the blog be about?
  2. Who will blog?
  3. How much time will blogging take?
  4. What will blogging cost?
  5. Will blogging really help?

(Five Getting-Started Blog Questions by P.J. Fusco)

Having read the article the truth is that blogging should be seen as a integral part of a company’s digital marketing strategy – so there it is my first blog posting…

Number of South African blogs rising

The South African blogosphere is stirring and reports indicate that over 600 000 South African Internet users have visited blogs by their fellow South Africans in just one month.

Arthur Goldstuck provided relevant South African statistics on the number of bloggers in South Africa for the month of August 2007 in a recent post on the Mail & Guardian Online’s Thought Leader.

He says he believes that by August next year, “blogs will not only be a mainstream component of most online media in South Africa, but they will also be a dominant component”.

“In terms of social media and networking spaces, the shift in numbers has increased greatly. Facebook, which has had a three-fold increase in the past three months, is the symptom of the tipping point”

Goldstuck also said the number of South African bloggers in relation to the number of web users in the country is still low, but it is, in fact, an astonishing achievement.

Statistics showed that there were 25 037 blogs in South Africa at the end of August but only 11% were active.

According to Vincent Maher, the M&G Online’s strategist, the number of unique blog visitors during August, 621 204, would place blogs overall among South Africa’s five most popular websites.

This number, said Maher, lends credibility to the way the internet and its use is moving forward: it promotes collaboration between and sharing among users.

Goldstuck believes that “By the end of the year we should see the number of [South African] internet users increase to 3,85-million, and broadband subscriptions will increase by 828 000. This will bring greater media attention until such time blogging will find its natural niche,” he said.
