Whilst putting together a social media presentation a week back, i stumbled across an awesome video on YouTube(see below). Its a Sony Vaio advert but incorporates a SMAA (Social Media Addicts Association) meeting. It made me think, could this be possible, in the near future will some of us (me included) become social media addicts. We can already look at global statistics and come to the conclusion that Social Media is definitely growing at a rapid rate!
As a follow on to Leanne’s blog post below, I think that Ingrid & Jaco’s presentation really gave the parents and students at HeronBridge College some food for thought.
This video was shown at the beginning of the presentation and in 5 minutes certainly shared some mind-blowing statistics …where would we be without the ever changing face of technology? I don’t want to imagine! If you haven’t seen this before enjoy, if you have watch it again
Last night I had the pleasure of attending a talk held at HeronBridge College dealing with all the new online trends and how one can make a career out of this. Guest speakers Ingrid Rubin and Jaco Meiring did a combined presentation, highlighting what is happening within the “digital space” and what effect it is having in our day to day lives.
Although many of us are aware of the enormous growth of the internet and we constantly hear how social media is increasing and people are interacting more and more online. Susan Boyle the elderly Scotswoman who become a worldwide sensation last month on the new hit ITV show “Britain’s got talent” returned last night to the show after a six week absence. She has already won a popularity contest on YouTube, where videos of her performances in April have been viewed an astounding 220 million times.
The first version of YouTube Insight that launched about a year ago, was a basic product providing mainly statistics on the number of times your YouTube videos were viewed per day, where those viewers are in the world, and how a video compares in popularity to other videos in a given time period.
longtail has started to expand exponentially into all the social networking channels. One of the main areas we are focusing on is YouTube. At the beginning of the year YouTube had almost 80 million videos online with almost 200 000 videos published every day!! These statistics cant be ignored and as a result of this longtail started designing and implemented branded YouTube channels.
One of the most recent channels set up on YouTube is the “Gil- it works beautifully channel“. This channel was established to increase brand awareness as well as drive visitors to the Gill Hygiene web site where people can enter a competition to win Tri-Nations rugby tickets.
Even though we live in a fast paced and virtual world we are still very limited in our way of thinking in order to retrieve and obtain information. I just had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Stafford Masie from Google South Africa at the Lowe Bull Group office in Johannesburg. I was not the only one, but all of us were equally blown away by what Google actually has to offers its users, Advertisers and individuals in the Media world.
I have to mention that longtail previously invited Stafford to speak on Google’s involvement in South Africa at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange which I was not able to attend, so the following are my impressions taken from his latest presentation. This is in the particular order of randomness.
On Thursday it was Turkey and yesterday it was China. Read the full article on the AFP web site. It means just one thing though: online video is the CGM ( consumer generated media ) of the future and if governments start to fear it, it must mean that the consumer is finally making governments ( as well as big corporations and big media ) think twice about getting away with what they have for all these years.
